Work Out Your Salvation
Money motivates people, having a nice body motivates people, stunting on their “imaginary haters” motivates people and a lot of other things. Wanting to have a good life that you enjoy is fine, but what about your life after you die? It’s so easy to say that we’re saved but are we really working out our salvation?
(Philippians 2:12- Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.)
What does that scripture mean to you?
2 Timothy 2:4-7
When you work out you are trying to improve your fitness for athletic competition, ability, or performance. Everyone who works out is looking for some kind of result, whether it’s a 6 pack, stronger muscles, a trophy, etc. So many people start the year off right, they go to the gym and then BOOM they just stop, they’re no longer motivated. It’s just like how people get saved, they’re on fire for God and then BOOM they just lose that zeal.
Luke 8:4-15
In Matthew 8:6 if I replace seed with my name it says that Monique fell on shallow soil with rock beneath. Monique began to grow, but soon withered and died for lack of moisture. If we don’t water ourselves with God’s Word, friends that are helping us grow in God and by praying and fasting we will wither too. We want to be the good soil, we need to listen to God’s Word and cling to it. The end of verse 15 says “steadily spread them to others who also soon believe” Just like people are always trying to invite someone to go to their gym and talk about how good it is, is the same way that we should be telling people about God and how good He is. Don’t be discouraged when God’s Word doesn’t get through to the people you love, just remember that your job is to plant the seed. It’s good to plant seeds but we need to make sure that we’re a good example of Christ. One of the most important things that we need to remember is “We may be the only version of the Bible that people read.” What do people see when they read you? Are you a book with a nice pretty cover with filth on the inside? Are you a book with a couple of good pages and a lot of bad ones? We need to make sure that if we represent Christ we represent Him in a good way.
James 3:11-18
A lot of people who work out take vitamins. God’s Word is like a vitamin. Vitamins are essential for normal growth and nutrition. God’s Word is essential for spiritual growth and a healthy spiritual diet.
2. Does anyone remember the show Ozzy and Drix?
It was about the vitamins who lived in this guy's body and would fight off harmful things like bad food, a cold etc.
Vitamins fight the things in our bodies that are harmful to us and God’s Word fights the things that are harmful to us such as bad thoughts, doubt and attacks from the devil.
Ephesians 6:10-17
“I’m working on myself” is something people are always saying, maybe they wanna avoid going on a date with someone, they wanna start working out or they’re practicing self care etc, but what about working out spiritual life. We always make sure we look good on the outside, we fix our hair nice/get haircuts, we wear the freshest clothes, nice shoes, but what does our spiritual life look like? If we can make sure our physical body looks good, we need to also make sure our spirit man is nice and healthy.
